Wondering why you should invest in a private session instead of a regular group yoga class?
Whether you’re new to yoga, have certain poses you’re struggling with, or have specific goals around strength, flexibility, or inner peace, private sessions can be extraordinarily helpful. Here are your advantages:
We can go deeper into your practice and explore individual techniques that are relevant to you right now. You’ll learn adaptations and modifications specific to your unique needs and body type. This is not a one-size-fits-some class, this is a tailored, personalized program just for you.
Privacy & assurance
In a group class, it can be difficult to approach the instructor about health or body issues. In a private session, you can confidently share your personal health history and we can tailor the practice so it’s appropriate to where you are today.
In a class, the teacher talks and the students are quiet. In private sessions, there is an ongoing dialog between us. You can give and get immediate feedback on what we’re doing and what’s going on in your body and your mind.
Comfort & ease
A private session can be held in the comfort of your own home (or mine). No need to step into a gym or an intimidating yoga studio. No feeling self-conscious about practicing in front of strangers, either!
If you think you’re too stiff, too big, too old, too disabled, or just “terrible at yoga”, during private sessions, you’ll discover that there’s no such thing. The practice of yoga is a journey that is between you and yourself. During our sessions, we’ll discover ways to boost your inner confidence and foster an improved sense of self-worth.
Yoga in real life
You’ll get practical tools like breathing techniques to manage anxiety, new muscle memory for better posture, mindfulness techniques to help you feel more calm and grounded. Private sessions focus on personal growth as well as a physical practice. Become more authentically you, learn to live without shame or apology, and put the gifts into the world that only you can give.
What they’re saying…
I appreciate Amber’s honesty about working with a large body, and especially her humor. Those things set me at ease and made me see she was very comfortable with sharing. I felt Amber’s power in owning her body, and commitment to teaching. It was an enriching experience.Sonya
The session was so empowering. You really have helped me find the confidence to be an active participant. It was very encouraging. Thank you.Michelle
How it works
First you’ll fill out an application letting me know your experience level, concerns and health history, goals with your yoga practice, and what you’d like to achieve together. Then we’ll schedule an intake meeting where we’ll chat and review all your information. This way we’ll get set up for success, and you’ll have clarity around how we’ll work together.
Our first session
During our first session together, I’ll guide you through some common yoga poses so I can assess your movement patterns, range of motion, and any injuries or body concerns. We’ll review your goals, identify a measurable, achievable one for the next session, and talk about what to practice over the next week.
Your student portal
You’ll get access to a secure student portal where each week I’ll post a recap of our session, along with notes so we can track your progress. You’ll also have a homework checklist, printable worksheets, access to videos, audio recordings, and more. Plus, you’ll get a growing toolbox of resources that are relevant to what we’re studying.
Private sessions start at $85 per hour or $299 for a package of 4 sessions. I recommend at least 3-4 sessions for you to achieve success and learn the takeaways to be able to continue growth on your own.
Hey, I’m Amber Karnes, creator of Body Positive Yoga.
Yoga has been an integral part of my decade-long journey toward self-acceptance and body positivity – making peace with my body and helping others to do the same.
In my teaching, I emphasize safe alignment and mindful transitions, and help you give yourself permission to honor the body you bring to the mat today, while also being empowered to learn about the body’s intelligence and power. I infuse my yoga teaching with the foundational principles of inclusivity, agency, consent, body positivity, and self-acceptance.
By practicing yoga, using mindfulness, being supported by a community of others who “get” you, and utilizing self-care practices, you can learn radical self-acceptance and positively experience your body.
